10 Weeks!

A couple weeks ago, my husband and I got the best news possible: we were expecting an addition to our family!

Our second ultrasound yielded the following super duper cute pictures.  These are our baby's first pictures as a recognizable human being.  I started laughing and crying during the ultrasound when I saw our baby bouncing around.

Tip for future moms, don't laugh while the doctor is trying to hear the baby's heartbeat during the ultrasound.  It almost blew out the speakers.

I'm a little further along in my pregnancy than these pictures show because the exam was done a couple of weeks ago.  I just got them online this afternoon.  I can't wait until our next ultrasound to see how much bigger our baby has gotten and to find out if we're having a girl or boy.

First Trimester Shenanigans

We'd been trying to conceive since we bought the house.  I was taking home pregnancy tests every week to see if we had conceived or not.  Even though they showed "not pregnant" on the tests, I felt that we had succeeded.  My period was late, my breasts were achy, I was increasingly constipated, and my sense of smell sharpened to the point where I could smell the walls of the house.

My appetite changed too.  Since getting pregnant, I haven't wanted to eat beef or rice at all.  My poor husband hasn't had a meal with rice or beef in a couple of months.  I gave up coffee and I miss it so much.  Whenever we pass by a Starbucks shop, or see someone drinking from a Starbucks cup, I get this feeling that I'm looking at a long lost boyfriend.

However, these small discomforts are so worth it.  I can't wait to meet our little baby in a few months.  I was telling my husband that I hoped our doctor has the new 3D ultrasound machine.  But I don't think I'll be heartbroken if she doesn't.  As long as the baby is healthy is all that matters to me.

How about the rest of you mothers and mothers-to-be?  How did you feel when you saw your baby on the ultrasound screen?

DIY Projects: Window Screens

When we first bought our house my husband and I realized that we'd need to do some work to improve our house.  First on the list were new window screens for the windows.  We went back and forth on calling a handyman but then we decided to DIY it.  And I'm really glad we did!

We went to Home Depot and bought a roll of black window screen mesh, and 2 window screen frame kits for $30 plus tax.

The tricky part about putting the screen together was putting the rubber gasket in place.  We found that the screen would ride up the more we rolled the rubber gasket in place.  The next challenge was to cut the excess mesh from the window screen frame once everything was in place.  We took care of that with a pair of Chinese scissors.

This is the finished product.  It looks just as a good as a "professional" screen and I'm really proud that we finished it by ourselves.  It just took a little bit of love, patience and elbow grease to get our bathroom window fitted with a brand new window screen.

Welcome to my new blog!

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to my new blog!  I'm starting this new blog at a moment in my life where all things are in flux and changing directions.  Change is definitely exciting!

A little bit about me.  I'm a new wife and soon-to-be mother.  I love to travel but am equally happy to be a homebody.  I live my life with the philosophy that the present is a gift that you should cherish and enjoy, so it's important not to sweat the small stuff and not to take anyone or anything for granted.

You can expect to see posts on makeup and skincare, marriage, and motherhood, and anything else in between.  I'm not too tech savvy so let me know if you have any comments or suggestions on how to improve the appearance of my blog.

Thanks for stopping by!

Yours,
Carol
